WILTSHIRE POLICE – Man arrested following report of burglary in Pewsey

Officers responding to a 999 call reporting a burglary in progress at a bakery in Pewsey arrested one man in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after midnight, we were called to Marshalls Bakery in North Street.

Two men are believed to have been seen running from the scene.

Officers attended and carried out an area search.

A 37-year-old man was located in North Street and was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

NPAS (police helicopter) was also tasked to carry out an area search to locate further suspects, and a vehicle of interest was located in the car park behind the bakery.

The vehicle, a Honda Civic, was seized as part of our enquiries.

Community coordinator PC Teresa Herbert said: “This was good policing work by officers who were able to attend the scene swiftly and locate a suspect who currently remains in custody in Melksham.

“Our enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing at this time and we would be keen to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to what happened who has not yet spoken to police. I’d like to thank the member of the public who alerted police to the incident after hearing suspicious noises at the bakery.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
